OVERDUE PROCEDURE
Parents, here is the procedure we follow regarding overdue books:
The overdue list is given to teachers on Tuesday afternoons. Contained on the list are all students with books that come due through the upcoming Friday - in order to give time for students to renew books if needed. Students initial the overdue list indicating they are aware they have the books and need to get them taken care of by the following Tuesday morning before school in order to avoid a detention.
On Fridays, library staff phones parents of students who still have not returned nor renewed their books. This is a courtesy call so you are aware your student needs to return a book.
Every Monday an announcement is made to the studentbody that anyone who was on last week's overdue list needs to get their books in by Tuesday morning before school or they will be issued a detention. By this time, the students have had three reminders.
Tuesday morning, any students who have not returned or paid for their books are issued a detention. Students who lose books must pay for their replacement in addition to serving detention. If you prefer, instead of serving detention, your student may pay for the books by that Tuesday morning. Later, if you find the book, just bring it in and we'll cheerfully refund your money.
We appreciate your cooperation in getting the books back promptly so other students may use them. This overdue procedure also helps teach our students increased responsibility (one of the pillars of Character Counts).
Although students are allowed to have three books out at a time, you may request to have them limited to one or two books at a time. Just drop Mrs. Morris an email stating your preferences: JudiP.Morris@dvusd.org
TEXTBOOKS
Students are assigned science textbooks through the library. They have several different books throughout the year. The completed book must be returned or paid for prior to obtaining the next book.
Math textbooks may be checked out through the library.
